Nuclear Weapons 182 - Cold War Nuclear Bunker For Sale In Georgia

        In October of 2014, there was an article in the Irish Times about a secret underground bunker in the state of George in the U.S. that could supposedly survive a twenty kiloton nuclear bomb explosion. In July of 2015, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ran a story about "places in Georgia that you cannot visit." Then, in November of 2015, there was series of stories in the media about the bunker.

Nuclear reactors 316 - The Chinese Have High Nuclear Ambitions

        I have blogged before about China's ambitious plans for expanding their use of nuclear power. The latest big Chinese five year plan covers from 2016 to 2020. The plan says that China is going to invest seventy eight billion dollars to build seven new reactors each year from 2016 to 2020. China will have eighty eight gigawatts of nuclear power by 2020 under the plan.

Nuclear Reactors 314 - 6 More Reasons That Nuclear Power Is Not A Good Choice For Low Carbon Power Generation

          I recently posted an two part article listing fifteen reasons that nuclear power was not a good source of low carbon power generation to help with climate change mitigation. Some of these reasons are global and some have to do with the situation in the U.S. Some of the reasons have to do with construction of new reactors and some apply to existing reactors.

Nuclear Reactors 313 - Parliamentary Report Critical of Indian Nuclear Safety

        India has serious problems with supplying sufficient power to the national grid. Prime Minister Modi is dedicated to the construction of more nuclear power reactors to increase available power for civilian and industrial uses. Russia has agreed to assist India in the construction of twelve nuclear power plants. Westinghouse is currently negotiating to build six power reactors in India.

Nuclear Reactors 312 - Leak of Radioactive Steam Scares Residents Near Saint Petersburg, Russia

        The Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant I is located in the Russian town of Sosnovy Bor which on the Gulf of Finland. Sosnovy Bor is about forty miles west of the major Russian city of Saint Petersburg. Construction of the LNPP I began in 1970.  There are four RBMK-1000 reactors at the LNPP I. These reactors are similar to the reactors at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
