Nuclear electricity generation capacity in the Middle East is expected to increase from 3.6 gigawatts this year to 14.1 GWe by 2028 thanks to new construction start-ups and recent agreements between Middle Eastern countries and nuclear vendors, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said yesterday. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will lead near-term growth by installing 5.4 GWe of nuclear capacity by 2020, it said. World-nuclear-news.org

Reactor block 1 at Beznau nuclear power plant can restart after a three-year shutdown for repairs, the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate said on Tuesday. Built in 1969, the Beznau facility in canton Aargau is the world’s oldest commercial nuclear power plant. It has been out of service since March 2015, when anomalies were found in its steam generator.  Swissinfo.ch

Iran is implementing its nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed to his board of governors yesterday.
