The Army Corps of Engineers has obtained a grant to clean up nuclear waste materials at the former NUMEC nuclear materials plant in Parks Township. According to a report from KDKA-TV, NUMEC, which made fuel for power plants and atomic submarines, buried its waste in 55-gallon drums around its 140-acre site. The plant was closed in 1983. EDF Energy has extended an outage at its Hunterston B-7 nuclear reactor in Britain until Dec. 18, it said on Monday.
